Easy Healthy Apple Crisp Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 Cups of Apples, Cubed
- 1 ½ Cups of All Purpose Flour
- 1 ½ Cups Brown Sugar, Packed
- 1 ½ Cups of Oatmeal
- 1 ½ tsp Cinnamon
- ¾ Cups Butter, melted (this is a stick and a half of butter)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Peel and cube your apples. Make sure to remove the core and seeds – girl, no one wants to eat those!
- Place the cubed apples into your baking dish.
- In the microwave mixing bowl, melt the butter completely.
- After the butter is melted, add the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, and cinnamon. Don’t forget to pack the brown sugar!
- Stir this with a fork until it is all mixed up and crumbly. I wouldn’t be surprised if all of this crumbly goodness didn’t make it onto your apples. My kids and I always have some right out of the bowl – so yummy.
- Pour the crumbly mixture on top of the apples and spread it out until all the apples are covered. It should be a pretty even layer. There is no need to push the crumble down into the apples.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. The crumbly topping will be golden brown.
- Let it sit and cool a bit before serving. It does not have to cool completely if you like it warm😊.
- You can store this Apple Crisp in your refrigerator for up to 5 days. Anything past that and it will turn into a pile of mush. But don’t fret, it will be long gone before that!
Helpful Tips
- 4 cups of apples are usually about 4 medium apples. Think about a tennis ball size here. I like to add just a bit more apples and go for 5 apples.
- You can use any kind of apple you like to make apple crisp but I find the best apples include Honeycrisp and Granny Smith. They don’t get so mushy when you bake them.
- When it comes to what kind of oatmeal you want to use, I have been using the Quaker Oats Quick One Minute Oats and have always had great luck with it. But the Quaker Oats Old Fashioned oatmeal will work just as well.
- Vanilla Ice Cream makes a delicious topping for apple crisp, along with a drizzle of caramel sauce.
