Best Halloween Kid Party Ideas
When we host our Halloween party for kids and adults, there are about 40 people who usually show up. Go big or go home, right?
Anywho, these party ideas are based on that number but can easily be adjusted to however many people you would like to invite.
Happy Halloween!
Kids Halloween Party Planning
To get your party planning started, pick a location and date.
You can choose to do the Halloween party at your house, in your garage or yard, or you can try to set it up in a completely different location.
Since we had such a large group, I hosted at my parent’s garage and yard, bless them. They have a much larger yard and garage than I do.
As for the timing, consider the ages of the kids coming to the party and how much food you want to supply.
We had a handful that still took naps so our party started about 2 p.m. By 7:30 p.m., they were partied out and got a normal night of sleep.
Halloween Party Invitations
Get those invites ready and sent out about 3 weeks before your party date. Kids love getting snail mail!
If you want those kiddos to wear a costume, make sure you include that info on the invite.
Here are a few great Halloween invitation options.
Halloween Decorations
Bring your Halloween party to life by adding some décor. How much you want to add is completely up to you, but add something.
These decorations can be used inside and if the weather is cooperating outside too.
I have used all of these and they have worked great for multiple Halloweens. But I am a little particular about storing my holiday décor.
You can easily make balloon ghosts by using balloons, cheesecloth, and string. No face is necessary if you don't want to.
If your party is more in the evening and it will be dim, put a lit glow stick or 2 in the balloons.
These are other amazing decorations that you have to check out for your party.
Halloween Blow Up Decorations
Depending on the size of the yard you have, adding Halloween blow-ups will boost the Halloween atmosphere.
These are the top Halloween blow-up decorations on Amazon.
Our friends live in the country and created a Halloween blow-up hayride.
All the kids had an absolute blast with it.
Music was played through this portable speaker on the trailer to add to the playful spookiness.
Not only do my friends have this speaker but we have it too.
Halloween Food Ideas
There are so many festive Halloween food ideas that you can find on Pinterest to add to your menu.
But let’s be honest, kids like to keep it basic at parties.
Here are some easy ideas that will feed a crowd.
Main Food
Pizza
Walking Taco
Hot Dogs
Sandwiches
Snacks
Halloween Trail Mix
Individual Bags of Chips and Crackers
Fruit
Desserts
Pumpkin Bars
Halloween Cupcakes
Candy Corn and Festive M&M’s
Various Cookies
(my favorite is ghost cookies made from Nutter Butters dipped in white Almond Bark with mini chocolate chips for eyes and a mouth)
Drinks
Apple Cider
Bottled Water
Juice Boxes
Gatorade (you know, those small ones)
Let me know in the comments below what your favorite fall foods and drinks are. Personally, I love a good soup.
Halloween Activities
When you are planning a party for kids, it is best to have a few must-do activities set up and have a few just-in-case ones.
There are some kiddos when idol who may get a little crazy/naughty.
Keep them moving.
Bounce House
My number 1 activity is a bounce house, and it will last the entire length of your party.
You can either buy one or rent one.
And trust me, you won’t be sorry about this!
Decorate a Treat Bag
When kiddos start showing up, you can have them decorate a treat bag while they wait for everyone to get there.
This will be a great icebreaker for all of them and they are occupied kind of in 1 area.
Piñata
All the kids will have so much fun trying to knock the candy of out a piñata!
Depending on the number of kids you have coming, you may need more than one.
We always start with the youngest kiddos and let the oldest go last. Some of those kids have some real power.
Decorate Pumpkins
Let’s be honest, what would a Halloween party be without some pumpkin decorating?
Depending on the other activities you have planned, this can be a long or short activity.
My favorite way to have kids decorate pumpkins while they are at a party is to use stickers.
I was pleasantly surprised at how good these stickers are.
The kids can carve pumpkins, this may require help from you.
This is a solid carving kit. The kids can place a battery-powered candle in to light it up.
They can also paint them.
If you are going to go this route, decorate pumpkins at the start of the party so they have time to dry.
The best paint is acrylic paint or acrylic paint pens, which are not ideal for those younger kiddos.
Face Painting
Do you have other adults helping out with your party?
See who is the most artistic and ask them to do face painting for the kids.
They will be lined up for their turn.
This face paint is so good – vibrant and washes off easily with a little soap and water.
I look on Pinterest for great ideas!
Scavenger Hunt
You can easily add a few more decorations to your party and have the kiddos go on a Halloween scavenger hunt.
The kids always go bananas about this, so I try to do it every Halloween.
MORE TO ENJOY
Halloween Games
Even though you have picked out some activities for your Halloween party, it is great to have a few games for the kids also. Kind of like a carnival, if you will.
Keep those kiddos busy, mama! Of course, it will take a little more effort from you but those kids are going to have a blast.
These are some great options if your guests are 8 and younger.
But don't be surprised if they are older than that and want to play. We had adults playing these games at our party.
Halloween Photo Booth
If you have the kiddos dress in costumes, then you have to put together a photo booth for them. This is a great way to capture how great they all look.
Last year our photo booth theme was Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin. We made our background cutouts.
Everyone took so many pictures by it.
You can gather some easy materials to make a rockstar photo area like foil curtains, balloons, or even a Halloween background.
I know this background is actually a tablecloth but it is better quality than the backgrounds I was finding.
And you can use it in your home long after the party.
No need for photo booth props if the kiddos already have their costumes on.
Dance Party For Kids
You can have a set time to play some music or have it going during the whole party.
Either way, those kids will find their groove and want to move to the beat.
This speaker can really blast the music, and it is waterproof.
Pair it with this party light, which still jazzes up the party even in daylight, and the kids will have so much fun.
Plan on setting up a child-appropriate dance playlist ahead of time so you don't have to try and search for songs mid-party.
Party Favors for Kids
If you are looking for items to put into a goodie bag for each of the kids or even to add into the piñatas, these are some great options.
The kids will go nuts over them.
They can use these while they are at your party too, up to you.
Watch Halloween Movies
When the party is winding down, help all the kids settle down by watching It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.
It is my favorite Halloween movie.
Let me know in the comments below what your favorite Halloween movie is!
To make it extra special, try watching it by using this outdoor movie projector and projection screen.
