Best Halloween Activities for School
MORE TO ENJOY
Hey girl!
These Halloween activities for school have worked wonderfully with the kids in my daycare and some are ideas that my kids have brought home from school so I can't take all the credit.
Either way, my kids loved them so much.
Everything on this list is so much fun that you might as well plan to celebrate Halloween all week long with your kids.
Let me know in the comments below which Halloween activities you tried in your classroom this year.
1. Halloween Photo Booth
The first thing I would do if I were you is set up a Halloween photo booth area.
I love doing this for every holiday since the kids work so hard on their activities and we want to capture the results.
You can easily create this with some foil curtains and festive balloons.
Are you feeling extra spunky?
You could try for some cutout like I did last year of Charlie Brown and the gang. My kids went bananas over it!
2. Guess How Many
Who knew something so simple as guessing a number could be so fun for everyone?
You are sure to get your class in the spirit of the holiday with this.
Examples of items you could have in your jar include candy corn, m&m’s, goldfish crackers, and candy pumpkins.
You can do all one item or a mix of a few. I like to do a mix.
The prize could be the jar of treats.
3. Halloween Mad Libs
Mad libs are a riot to do and there are ones out there of kids of all ages.
Kids can’t help but crack up as they read their results out loud to you.
4. Halloween Countdown
Just like with the Christmas construction paper garland countdown, you can have your kids easily make one for Halloween.
I know this will take a little bit of your time cutting all those orange and black stripes, but it will be worth it.
5. Pumpkin Crafts
Gather some orange construction paper and print a pumpkin outline on it. If your kids are a little older, have them draw a pumpkin outline on it.
Make sure they cut that pumpkin out.
Then they can decorate it to turn it into a jack-o-lantern with Crayola Markers and Stickers.
6. Halloween Magnets
This Halloween craft kit comes with everything you need to make lots of wooden Halloween magnets.
Even though younger kiddos can do this, I think those that are 2nd grade and older will get the most out of this activity.
They will certainly make the most out of your money.
7. Halloween Ornaments
I know your kids love any kind of scratch art just as much as my kids do.
These Halloween ornaments are sure to be a hit!
8. Foam Pumpkins
This foam pumpkin craft is so fun.
The kiddos will be so excited to show this to their family and use it as festive décor at home.
9. Halloween Play Doh
Playdoh is such an amazing item to work fine motor and creativity skills.
My kids and daycare kids always go nuts for it and would be more than happy to play with it every day.
Make it great for Halloween by adding some Halloween cookie cutters.
10. Halloween Stamps
After you are done with Play Doh, use those same cookie cutters for some Halloween stamping.
This Crayola washable paint makes great pictures and washes off the cookie cutters with some warm soapy water.
11. Halloween Games - Inside
Set up a mini carnival with these festive indoor Halloween games for kids.
12. Halloween Games - Outside
Take those kiddos outside and have them try a few classic games that have a Halloween twist.
You and I both know they always seem to have more energy to burn.
13. Halloween Stickers
Here are some fun ways for your kids to get creative.
These Halloween stickers are the best ones I could find that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
14. Halloween Bingo
I have never met a kiddo who hasn’t gotten into playing Bingo.
Halloween candy makes the perfect prize for the winners.
15. Halloween Mask Craft
More rainbow scratch art, um…yes please! These masks are so fun that they will want to make 2!
You guys, my kids and daycare kids wear masks all the time. This includes paper ones until they fall apart.
16. Decorating Pumpkins
There are so many ways to decorate pumpkins and I have never met anyone that won’t do it.
The kids can use foam stickers, which is my favorite for younger kiddos. Short attention span and all that.
Paint is another great option. I love these paint pens. The kids will be able to add great details with them.
And if your school is cool with this, carve the pumpkins with these carving cookie cutters.
To save yourself some money, contact a local pumpkin patch and see if they will donate the small ones to your classroom.
17. Halloween Snack Mix
This is one of my kids’ favorite activities!
Ask your kiddos to help out with donations.
Have them bring in things like mini Oreos, goldfish crackers, chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, pretzels, and more!
Let them be the ones to add each item to the big bowl, or better yet a cauldron, and then you mix it up.
It makes a great treat snack for them.
18. Halloween Rock Painting
Painting Halloween rocks is a cheap activity that the kiddos will love to do. You can do a rock hunt with them first to get them pumped about it.
For younger kiddos, you are better off to go with washable paint. But if they are a bit older, bring on the acrylic paints.
19. Halloween Color Pages
There are so many free printable Halloween color sheets on the internet.
Print a variety off and let them go to town.
20. Build a Haunted House
Save all those boxes you get from Amazon, Target, Walmart, and so on, and bring them in to let your kids build a haunted house.
Don’t have enough boxes for everyone to do their own, no worries! Have them work in teams.
Set out markers, crayons, stickers, construction paper, and any other materials you think they may need to bring their haunted house to life.
You can take it a step further and turn it into a math lesson.
Give the kids an allowance, have them work out a budget and then make them “buy” all the materials they need.
21. Mummy Wrap Game
And while your kiddos are busy working as a team, hand out some toilet paper or white streamers and have them make a team member into a mummy.
Set a timer to see which team can make the best one in a short amount of time.
22. Halloween Bookmarks
How fun are these DIY Halloween bookmarks?
Hopefully, these will make your kids want to read even more than they do already.
23. Halloween Mask Craft
These Halloween foam masks are perfect for 1st grade and younger.
When everyone is done, have them get together for a group picture.
24. Halloween Face Painting
Do you have more than 1 teacher/aide in your classroom? If yes, then you should consider a bit of face painting.
This doesn’t have to be a full face of Halloween fun but could be as simple as a pumpkin, ghost, or bat on the kiddo’s cheek.
Even though this face paint looks cheap, don't be fooled, the color payoff is amazing. It also washes off super easily!
25. Halloween Scavenger Hunt
If your classroom is decorated for Halloween and maybe the school hallways, send your class on a Halloween scavenger hunt.
The younger your kids are, the fewer items they have to find. The older your kids are, the more items they have to find.
Some classic Halloween items include pumpkins, spiders, bats, and ghosts.
For a large list of scavenger hunt ideas, check out this post of mine.

26. Halloween Maze / Obstacle Course
Turn an area of your classroom into a maze/obstacle course.
The kids will have so much fun trying to avoid the spider webs and streamers. I love using cheap items!
Add in other fun challenges like do a spooky ghost sound and show me your favorite jack-o-lantern face.
27. Halloween Parade
Invite your entire class to get festive and wear a school-appropriate Halloween costume. Either go on a costume parade with just your class or get the whole school on board for one.
Get yourself in the spirit too and don a costume. Last year I was a Rockford Peach.
This is the perfect time to use that photo booth I was talking about at the beginning of this post.
28. Halloween Dance Party
After you get done trying out these amazing Halloween activities, make sure to get all the kids’ wiggles out with a Halloween dance party.
There are so many great Halloween songs for kids. These are our top 3 though.
Halloween Freeze Dance
Five Little Pumpkins
Halloween Gummy Bear
29. Halloween Books for Kids
Now it is time to settle things down. Of course, you always want to encourage reading.
These are great read-out-loud books for kids or they can take turns reading them silently.
Splat the Cat and the Pumpkin Picking Plan
30. Halloween Movie for Kids
Sometimes a movie is just what your kiddos need to end their fun-filled day or week of celebrating Halloween.
My favorite is It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.
Please pick something that is age appropriate for your classroom.
Have a great time celebrating Halloween with your class!
