Hey girl, today let’s chat about how you can make these melt in your mouth Angel Cookies. And girl, having just 1 of these cookies is not enough!
A few years ago my sweet neighbor (who was 80 at the time) gifted us a tin of a few different Christmas cookies that she made and Angel Cookies were one of them. After just one bite, yep it only took one, we knew we had to have the recipe.
She was happy to share and told me she got the Angel Cookies recipe handed down to her from her mother-in-law, so this recipe is old and I love it!
The secret to making these Angels Cookies into the most delicious morsels is to shape them in your hands, so DO NOT skip that step!
Angels Cookies are a fabulous addition to any Christmas Cookie platter but honestly, I make them year-round.
You bet these angel cookies make fantastic birthday treats, baby shower cookies, Easter cookies, graduation cookies - you name it.
Let’s get in the kitchen and whip up a batch (or 2) of delicious Angel Cookies!

Best Angel Cookies Recipe
Ingredients
- ¾ Cup White Sugar, divided
- ½ Cup Brown Sugar
- 1 Cup Butter, softened (can also use shortening)
- ½ tsp Vanilla
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Cream of Tartar
- ½ tsp Salt
- 2 Cups Flour
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Cream butter until light and fluffy.
- Add ½ cup of white sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla. Mix well.
- Next, add baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
- Finally, add flour and mix well.
- Using the cookie scoop, scoop out dough into your hand. Roll the dough into a ball, and add a slight amount of pressure. You are making the magic happen right here!
- Next, roll the dough ball in white sugar and place it on a cookie sheet. I like to put that ¼ cup of sugar into a bowl but you can use a plate too. You can either keep it as a ball or use something like a drinking glass bottom to gently smash it into a cookie shape about ¼ inch thick (this is what we like to do).
- Bake the cookies for 10 – 12 minutes.
Helpful Tips
- You need to add your sprinkles before putting your cookies in the oven. We like to smash the cookies and then add the sprinkles on top but you can also add the sprinkles into the dough while it is still in the mixer.
- This is ultra important!!! Let the cookies cool on the pan for 8 minutes (set a timer) and then move to cooling racks until they are completely cool.
- You will end up with about 65 delicious Angel Cookies.
- Store these cookies in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks.
