Hey girl, I am so glad you stopped by to chat about making these irresistible and melt in your mouth Angel Sugar Cookies.

Good luck trying to have just one. Man, they are so good.

A few years ago, my sweet elderly neighbor gifted us a container of various Christmas cookies and treats that she had made, and Angel Sugar Cookies were one of them.  After just one bite, I knew we had to have the recipe.

Thankfully, she was happy to share and told me her Angel Sugar Cookies recipe had been handed down to her from her mother-in-law. Some of those old fashioned treats are hard to beat.

There is a secret to making these Angel Sugar Cookies into the most delicious morsels. You have to shape them by hand. Don’t even try to skip this step, it is key!

Angel Sugar Cookies are the best addition to any Christmas Cookie platter.

They are so good though that you will want to make them year round for bridal and baby showers, Easter, graduations and even for birthdays.

I don’t want to keep you any longer. Let’s get in the kitchen and whip up a batch (or 2) of Angel Sugar Cookies!

Angel Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • ¾ Cup White Sugar, divided
  • ½ Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 Cup Butter, softened
  • ½ tsp Vanilla
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 2 Cups Flour
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Add ½ cup of white sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla.  Mix well.
  4. Next, add baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  5. Finally, add flour and mix well.
  6. Using the cookie scoop, scoop out dough into your hand.  Roll the dough into a ball, and add a slight amount of pressure.  You are making the magic happen right here!

Note: You will feel the texture of the cookie dough ball change slightly. That is how you know you are doing it right.

  1. Next, roll the dough ball in white sugar and place it on a cookie sheet.

Note: Put the ¼ cup of sugar into a bowl or on a small plate.

Note: You can either keep it as a ball or use something like a drinking glass (flat) bottom to gently smash it into a cookie shape about ¼ inch thick (this is what we like to do).

  1. Bake the cookies for 10 – 12 minutes.

Helpful Tips

  • If you want to add sprinkles, you will need to do it before you put your cookies in the oven.  We like to gently smash them and then place the sprinkles on top. You can also add the sprinkles to the dough as the final mixing step.
  • This is important!!!  Let the cookies cool on the pan for 8 minutes (set a timer) and then move to cooling racks until they are completely cool.
  • You will end up with about 65 scrumptious Angel Cookies.
  • Store the cookies in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Tell me, girl, what is your favorite part about the holidays? Christmas is my favorite holiday so I love every part of it!
