Activities to Include With Every April Themes For Toddlers
Hello there!
Everything below is from the standpoint of being a home daycare provider because that is what my world has been for the last 9 years (I recently had to stop due to an ongoing injury).
But don’t think a home daycare is the only place these April themes will work.
Oh no my friend, these themes can easily be used in daycare centers and preschools as well.
Have the best time teaching your little tikes, and you may be surprised that you will probably learn a new fun fact or 2 as well.
Reading
Oh wow, there are so many wonderful books for toddlers these days. And reading is mega important. So, of course, you have to include it with each theme you do!
I will include our 5 favorite books below to match each theme, 1 for every day of the week. But if you are an overachiever, there are more books out there that you can grab.
Now, now, don’t feel like you have to buy any books at all. In fact, I only buy books that turn out to be a hit.
Check out your local public library! Yep, zip on over there because checking out these books is FREE! Wahoo, free, which is music to my ears.
I hope your public library is just as amazing as mine is and you can check out up to 100 books at a time if you want to. No, I have never done that!
Songs
Get your kids moving, grooving, and learning by playing songs to match your theme of the week.
The last time I checked, they need to get wiggles out anyway.
And songs are so much fun for kids that they don’t even know they are learning too.
If you are anything like me, I know you find the beat of the song and want to move and groove with your kids, so why not join them?
They are going to love it.
We take our music pretty seriously around here and make song time even better with this Bluetooth speaker.
It is so much better than your phone!
Oh yes, let's not forget to talk about some pretty amazing YouTube channels that are the best for toddler songs. Without a doubt, this is where most of our music comes from.
Coloring
Every single toddler needs to build hand strength and master fine motor skills. Any kind of coloring or writing helps with this so much.
Take a peek on Google Images and Pinterest and you will find so many printables that match your theme for your toddlers to color. These are my go-to sites!
If you are a home daycare provider, then you have to stock up on some coloring supplies.
I am not a Crayola snob or anything, you just get what you pay for when it comes to colors and these are the best bang for your buck.
If you want to be bold, you can go for the Crayola paints as well. Even though we both know paint is messy, just go for it. Your kids will have so much fun with it.

Artwork
Let Pinterest help you here!
I am not good at coming up with my own kid art projects but 99% of the time I can look at a toddler art project on Pinterest and figure out how to get the same end project.
There are so many great ideas and I will let you know what we have tried and loved below.
I have found that the best projects for toddlers include 1 or all of these: coloring, cutting, gluing something, using paint, and more.
And any time my kids were able to make a mask that they could wear, it turned out to be the best project ever!
Outside Fun
Yes, April, bring on some melting snow and warmer temps. Well, maybe.
Either way, get your kids outside!
Break out the sidewalk chalk to have them make pictures of numbers, letters, shapes, and more. My kids love writing their names and making movement paths.
If you are able, take your kids on a scavenger hunt walk that matches your theme. You can help them by pointing out some things that you see to start and then have your kids tell you things that they see.
They are crazy good at finding things that you may not ever notice!

Spring
Songs
(Cocomelon)
(Have Fun Teaching)
(The Learning Station)
(The Kiboomers)
(Super Simple Songs)
Coloring
You will find a bunch of Spring Theme printable pages on Google Images.
Artwork
Have your kiddos try to make pipe cleaner or construction flowers. Maybe find some cute Bee stickers to add to their creation.
Outside
Your kids are going to have so much fun looking for signs of spring.
They can find greener grass, buds and leaves on trees, flowers, migrating birds coming back, and hopefully lots of puddles to jump in.
If it is warm enough, let them jump in the puddles. They are only kids once and they will remember forever!
Numbers
Songs
(The Learning Station)
(Jack Hartmann)
(Kids ABCD)
(Pinkfong)
(Super Simple Songs)
Coloring
You don’t even have to print anything for this.
Let your kids work on their fine motor skills by tracing the large numbers you draw with stickers.
Artwork
Build construction paper counting caterpillars. Your kids will get a chance to practice using scissors as they cut out multiple circles for the caterpillar.
Once the caterpillar is all glued together, practice counting with your kids.
Outside
See if your kids can spot the numbers in their environment. This could be house numbers, license plates, road signs, and more.
Flowers
Songs
(The Kiboomers)
(Bindi’s Music & Rhymes)
(Treehouse Direct)
(Firefly Family Theatre)
(The Kiboomers)
Coloring
There are lots of flower pictures to print and color on Google images.
Artwork
Help your kids trace their hands multiple times on different colored construction paper.
Then you can cut them out, I know this may be hard for the kids, and glue green paper stems on them.
They will each have a bouquet to take home at the end of the day.
Outside
Help your kids discover flowers at all stages. Some may be trying to push out of the ground while others may already be standing tall.
Letters
Songs
(Have Fun Teaching)
(Jack Hartmann – He has a song for each letter)
Are you sleeping monster alphabets?
(ZooZoo Song)
(Rock N Learn)
(English Tree TV)
Coloring
Swing over to Google Images and you will find all the letter pages you will ever need. You will be able to get individual letters or the whole alphabet.
Artwork
I know your kids are going to love doing painted handprint ABCs as much as mine do. There are so many examples for you to follow on Pinterest.
Outside
As soon as you step out the door, ask your kids to start searching for letters. They will find them everywhere.
Another great outside letter activity is to fill your driveway with letters using sidewalk chalk. If you have 5 daycare kids, make 5 A’s and 5 B’s and so on. You are going to want to space them out.
Call out a letter and see if your kids can find them.
Easter
Songs
(The Learning Station)
(The Kiboomers)
(The Kiboomers)
This is the Way the Bunny Hops
(The Kiboomers)
(The Kiboomers)
Coloring
Print off Easter eggs, baskets, and bunny pictures for your kids to color.
Artwork
Even though I am done being a daycare provider my kids still ask to do this – create a giant Easter bunny scene on 1 of your doors with construction paper.
You can do it on multiple doors if you have the time and paper.
Outside
Take a look at neighboring homes. Can your kids find any Easter decorations?
Colors
Songs
(Jack Hartmann)
(The Learning Station)
(Super Simple Songs)
(The Singing Walrus)
(Jack Hartmann)
Coloring
You only need blank paper for this coloring activity. Let your kids create a picture from one of the books your read or have them create an original piece.
Remind them to use lots of different colors.
Artwork
An art project that has lots of different colors is anything with rainbows.
And good news, kids love rainbows so they are going to love this one!
Outside
In April there are colors, or the start of them, everywhere.
An easy way to help them find lots of different colors is to play a game or 2 of "I Spy" with them.
Grassland Habitats
Songs
(Pinkfong)
5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
(Little BoBo Nursery Rhymes)
(The Learning Station)
(Molly Kidz)
(The Kiboomers)
Coloring
Find coloring pages of grassland animals such as giraffes, zebras, and hippos.
Artwork
This was the most fun we ever had making masks for the kids to wear.
My kids are a bit older and they were able to help turn our house into an African Photo Safari for my husband’s 40th birthday last year.
Outside
Okay, this one is going to be tough since many of us don’t live in the grassland habitat, but you can still play some fun games together in the grass.
Shapes
Songs
(Kids TV)
(Pinkfong)
(Pinkfong)
(The Kiboomers)
(Jack Hartmann)
Coloring
My kids loved coloring in shapes and then using kid stamps to trace the outlines of them. You can draw your shapes or print off pages of them.
If you aren’t interested in kid stamps, try stamp markers.
Artwork
Your kids are going to have a blast making happy shape monsters with a little construction paper, scissors, and glue.
Outside
Shapes are everywhere inside your house and out. Ask your kids to point out where they see a circle, a rectangle, and so on until you reach the end of the shapes list.
