Best Board Games For 4-Year-Olds
Before we get started with these amazing board games for 4-year-olds, I just have to warn you that I added in some games that arenât âboard gamesâ but are ones that I know 4-year-olds love to play.
These extra games get played so much at my house by my kids and daycare kids that I just had to include them.

1. Hi Ho Cherry-O
Kids love playing Hi Ho Cherry-O and it does a great job at getting them counting and working on those fine motor skills.
You guys, I never try to "let the kids win" when I play against them. I am just too dang competitive.
But I always lose at this game. Like, every time â grrrr!
2. Candy Land
An absolute classic!
Your kiddo is going to love Candy Land! It is a great game to practice color recognition.
And those âsweet candy spacesâ are pretty popular too. There is so much excitement when one of those cards gets drawn.
3. Matching
This Baby Animal Matching Game is such a hit.
It works on focus and memory. My kids also love learning to recognize different animals.
I love that it can be played with 1 person if your kiddo is looking for something to do on his own.
4. Let's Go Fishin'
Kids go bananas over Letâs Go Fishin' and will play it for as long as you can stand the noise of it.
I lose every time, but that is only because I hold the fishing pole how you are actually supposed to.
5. Wild Kratts Race Around The World Game
If your kiddo is into Wild Kratts, then this game will be a hit.
It is pretty simple for kids to follow and doesnât take very long to play.
6. Chutes and Ladders
What a great game for practicing numbers, Chutes and Ladders!
Of course, you will have to be a helper with this one.
My kids and daycare kids love going up the ladders and down the chutes the best. Most of them donât care about trying to reach the finish line with this game.
7. Don't Break the Ice
While this is technically not a board game, Donât Break the Ice is a fan favorite for the 4-year-olds at my house and your child is going to love it too!
Donât wander off though, your kiddo is going to need you to rebuild it again and again.
8. Pretty, Pretty Princess
If you have a little girl, you have to get her the Pretty, Pretty Princess game.
She is going to love getting all dressed up during it. This will be a game she will want to play over and over.
I have to say, this is one of my favorites!
9. Hungry, Hungry Hippos
On your marks, get set, and eat! Hungry, Hungry Hippos is such a fun, fast pace game.
Kids love, love, love it.
But oh my gosh, do not let your kiddo play this if you have a headache! Only talking from experience here.
10. Trouble
This game is my favorite game on this whole list and I know your kiddo is going to enjoy it too.
That Pop-o-Matic is dynamite fun!
It is a great game for number recognition 1 â 6, and counting.
11. Connect 4
Is your child a thinker? Then Connect 4 is the perfect game.
You will be amazed how fast a 4-year-old can pick up on the strategies of this one.
12. Tenzi
I hadnât heard of Tenzi until my daughter got it for Christmas a few years ago.
The simplest way to play, but not the only way, is to see who can get all 10 dice to have the same number face up the fastest.
My kids love it because of the race.
Make sure you play this one on the floor or you will have dice flying off your table.
13. Tic Tac Toe
My kids will sit and play Tic Tac Toe for the longest time. Some kids pick up on the strategy of it right away and some donât.
Even the most seasoned player can miss a move/block from time to time though.
14. Fish Feud
Your kiddo isnât the only one that will want to be playing Fish Feud.
Sometimes I find myself sitting there practicing long after the 4 year olds I am playing with wander off, ha!

15. Twister
Even though Twister is rated for ages 6 and up, your 4-year-old can rock it.
It helps with colors, which are their left and right, and it is so much fun.
16. Mouse Trap
Have you ever played Mouse Trap or do you just set up it and watch the chain reactions?
I for sure have done both but your kiddo will be more interested in the chain reactions to start.
And I can totally understand why! It is fascinating.
17. Spot It Jr.
The kids I play Spot It Jr. with are so quick.
And they have the best time beating me.
Your kiddo is going to have a blast with this one as well.
18. Operation
Another wonderful game that is rated just a bit older than your kiddo is Operation. I do like getting games that kiddos can grow into though.
She is going to have a great time practicing removing all the parts. Steady hands, concentration, and lots of patience.
If you get annoyed by the buzzing, you can always switch it off or take the batteries out.
21. Hangman
Enter your text here...
What a great way to start introducing sight words to your kiddo by playing Hangman.
You can start with colors, shapes, and names in your family. Your child will be moving on to harder words faster than you think.
I like this travel one best of all the versions out there. Great in the car or while waiting.
22. Kerplunk
Your kiddo will enjoy the anticipation while playing Kerplunk.
This game is so easy to set up and play. It works on strategy and counting (at the end).
23. Uno
You can easily modify Uno so you can play it with your 4-year-old.
We have the classic cards but I didnât realize there are different versions now. The Super Mario cards would be a mega hit at my house.
24. Guess in 10
This game is a great way to learn some new facts about different topics â animals, around the town, dinosaurs, sports, and more.
I opted for the regular version of Guess in 10 Animals instead of the âjuniorâ.
Sometimes I have to add an extra clue or 2 but my 4-year-olds donât have any problems guessing the animals.
4 Year Old Games On My Wish List
So, even though my own kids are now 5 and up, I still like to get a new game or 2 every so often for my daycare kiddos.
The following games have pretty great reviews on Amazon.
