Best Outdoor Toys For 1 Year Olds
As I was putting this list of toys together for you, I realized we have a lot of outdoor toys.
I know it makes sense with 4 kids of my own, daycare kids, and neighborhood kids running all over the place, but whew, it is still a bunch.
There isn’t anything on this list that doesn’t get played with though.
I hope you find the best toys to add to your yard.
MORE FOR YOU TO ENJOY
1. Swing for 1 Year Old
This swing is going to get a workout, along with your arms.
Your little one is going to love being in it.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many hours of my life I have spent pushing kids on swings.
You can do what I do and try some lunges while you are at the swings. Multitask, Mama.
As your little one grows, I highly recommend these 2 swings - swings for big kids and a glider swing.
Some of the best money we have ever spent on outdoor fun for the kids.
2. Slide for 1 Year Old
It is the perfect size for your little one and is very stable.
We have to move ours around the yard so the grass doesn't wear in one spot, that is how much the kids use it.
3. Playset
If you want to go for the gusto right off the bat, try this playset.
It might seem a bit much for your little one but trust me when I say he will grow into it and it will get used.
I take my kids and daycare kids outside almost every day and they all head toward the playset and swings first.
4. Cottage Playhouse
Your little one will be in and out of this cottage playhouse as well.
Even I can get into this playhouse and it is a blast for kids.
Ours mostly turns into a restaurant and is great for helping use the imagination.
5. Activity Garden Little Tikes
This activity garden is great and is the perfect size for kids under 3. It can be used outside or inside if you have the room.
If I am being honest though, I would go for the cottage playhouse or the playset before this smaller playhouse if you have the space for them.
Your little one won’t grow out of those as fast.
6. Water Table
There might as well be magnets in water for how drawn to it kids are.
This water table is so fun and a great way to cool off as those summer days heat up.
My kids play with this every chance they get.You can add some more fun to the water table with these magnetic fish/fishing pole set. It is a great way to work on colors and counting.
It is never too early to start working on those skills.
7. Kids Picnic Table
A picnic table is a perfect place for your little one to sit down outside.
He can eat and play at it. And the best part is that it will get used for a long time.
My 9-year-old son still tries to squeeze into it.
8. Sandbox Toys
So, I didn’t put a sandbox on this list because I could find one that was close to ours to recommend. If you know someone handy, have them build you one.
Then ask an excavating company if you can get sand from them. If they are super generous, they may just give it to you if they know it is for a sandbox.
My husband built ours and made it huge – like 10 kids can fit in it at one time. And it gets used. It is crawling with kids every day.
Skip those little sandboxes. It will be outgrown in a flash.
Let me know in the comments below if you want to see pictures or need dimensions.
And since our sandbox is right in the sun we ended up getting this giant patio umbrella for it.
A little extra but my kids didn't want to play in it when the sand was so hot and this fixed that problem and helps with the kids getting out of the sun as well.
Just watch out for bats when you open it. It only happened once to me but I was certainly startled. My kids thought it was a hoot.
Anyway, these sand toys are amazing.
With so many kids playing with them, they have lasted a long time.
9. Toy Dump Trucks
Little boys love dump trucks, all trucks really, but I have seen all the little girls in my care play with them too.
We have this dump truck and this dump truck and tractor combo and they get used.
I have no doubt that your little boy is going to have a blast with them too.
10. Basketball Hoop
Playing basketball helps builds confidence.
You are going to enjoy listening to your little one giggle like crazy when baskets are made.
11. T-Ball Set
Even though she can use a real batting tee now, my 11-year-old loves to hit off this when the younger kids have it out.
I love that it collapses down for compact storage, it only took me over a year to figure that out.
12. Toy Golf Set
Look how cute this golf set is.
It is simple, fun, and durable for your little one.
Thankfully, it won't dig into your grass as regular clubs will.
13. Toy Tent
If you love camping as we do, this pop-up play tent is a perfect fit.
It will let his imagination develop and run wild with all the extras it comes with.
Even though we play with this outside, I make sure we put it in the toy shed when we are done.
I am not sure how weatherproof it is.
14. Bubble Machine
All little kids love bubbles.
They love to watch them, chase after them, and try to pop them.
If you don’t want to spend hours blowing bubbles then you have to check out this bubble machine.
Just be sure to clean it properly so it doesn’t gunk up on you. I had it happen and it was a bugger to get clean again.
15. Bubble Lawn Mower
You guys, I wish this bubble lawn mower actually cut the grass.
For how much your little one is going to use it, you are going to wish that too.
My kids and daycare kids used it so much that eventually, the bubble part didn’t work anymore but that didn’t matter one bit.
They kept right on using it.
16. Radio Flyer Tricycle
This Radio Flyer tricycle is where it is at! A toy that will grow with your child.
Ours was used so much that the wheels wore right off. This is no joke.
I am glad you can buy wheel replacements so the kids can keep on using it.
If a toy is that love, I consider it money well spent!
17. Baby Balance Bike
Get your little one started on a bike early with this baby balance bike.
We didn’t have this but my neighbor does and her son was able to ride a regular pedal bike faster than his older brother.
Wish I would have thought of it for my kids.
18. Cozy Coupe
Little kids go bananas over the Cozy Coupe.
We only have 1 and it is what everyone wants to ride in.
The littles have figured out how to hold their feet up while the big kids give them a push.
If you want to go the extra mile with the cozy coupe, you should consider the Cozy Pumper.
It is weather-proof so you can leave it sitting outside if you want to.
19. Splash Pad for Kids
Help your little one cool off on those hot summer days with a splash pad.
I like a splash pad since the kids can run through it or sit down in it to cool off.
There are smaller options out there, which work great if you have 1 kiddo using it.
Since we have multiple kids using it, we went for the biggest one we could find and the extra room is so nice to have.
20. Balls
You can get any kind of ball you can think of and it will get used.
The top favorites the younger kids go for at my house are these.
21. Ride-on Toys
We do not have these ride-on toys but they have great reviews on Amazon and are so cute.
So, if you are looking for other ride-on toy options, give these a gander.
This post was all about the best outdoor toys for 1 year olds.
