- 2 Cups Sugar
- 2 Egg Yolks
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 5 Cups All-Purpose Flour
- Powdered Sugar (used for rolling out the dough)
Butter Cream Frosting Ingredients
- 3 ½ Cups Powdered Sugar
- 4 TBSP Butter, softened
- ½ tsp Vanilla
- 3 – 4 TBSP Milk
- Food Coloring
- Festive Sprinkles
Instructions
Instructions for the Christmas Cut Out Cookies
- Cream butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy.
- Add sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla. Mix well.
- Gradually add flour and mix well.
- Cover and chill for 2 hours, or overnight.
- Dust the work surface with a half-and-half mixture of flour and powdered sugar. Roll out dough to 1/3 inch thickness.
- It is time for the cookie cutters. Get making those fun Christmas shapes.
- Place the cookies on a pan and bake for 10 minutes at 350°F. They should look white to slightly golden (and I mean slightly).
- Cool on the pan for 2 minutes (this is important so set a timer) and then move the cookies to cooling racks. Make sure the cookies are cooled completely before frosting.
Instructions for Frosting the Cookies
- Mix the powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and 3 TBSP of milk.
- If it is too thick, add that last TBSP of milk.
- Add food coloring if you want to get colorful.
- Frost those cookies
- Add sprinkles as you are frosting. The frosting doesn’t take long to set up.
Helpful Tips
- You can store these cookies in an air-tight container on the counter or in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks, but trust me, they won’t last that long.
- These cookies can also be made ahead of time and stored in the freezer, unfrosted. As you get close to Christmas, take them out of the freezer a day or 2 ahead of when you want to frost them and you are all set. They taste delicious both ways.
Merry Christmas!
