Amazing Gift Ideas
Before we get started, I have to tell you about just how epic my grandmother was when it came to Christmas. I think my obsession with Christmas came from her.
Every year, she would make a different Christmas treat every day starting on Black Friday and ending on December 23. I mean, wowza friend, that is a lot of Christmas treats! And then on Christmas, my Grandparents would have a huge party, and poof, the treats would be gone.
But I have heard plenty of stories from my aunts, uncle, and dad that not all the treats made it to Christmas – those sneaky monkeys!
It would be a huge undertaking but I would love to take on this challenge and repeat her tradition, at least once. My daughter told me she is up for it but I am not sure if this is the year or not.
Does your family have any Christmas stories or traditions like that? I would love to hear them in the comments below.
Christmas Kitchen Supplies
You have to check out these must-have kitchen supplies. They will make your whole Christmas treat making easier and save you some time too.
With 4 kids, I am all about saving time when I can.
I am telling you, girl, if you bake at all, you should have these in your kitchen.
1. KitchenAid Stand Mixer
First up is the KitchenAid Stand Mixer. This is the Mack daddy of kitchen supplies for me. Making Christmas treats turns into a breeze with it.
If it broke down, I would order another in a heartbeat because I use it all year long and not just for baking. It is fantastic help when it comes to cooking as well.
2. Hand Mixer
If that KitchenAid stand mixer is just out of your budget, then you for sure need a hand mixer. KitchenAid is the brand I would go with here as well.
You don't need both the stand and the hand mixer unless you want to.
I have both of them. This way more of my kids can be helpers at the same time.
3. Cookie Pans
When it comes to cooking pans, it is best to have 2 of each edged cookie pans and non-edged cookie pans. Trust me, they will all get used!
Now I am curious, what do you call them – cookie sheets or cookie pans? I have heard it both ways and so I say it both ways.
4. Cooling Rack for Baking
A set of 3 cooling racks is essential when it comes to baking Christmas treats.
The treats need time to cool and set and these racks are a space saver since you can stack them.
5. Measuring Cups and Measuring Spoons
Let’s talk about measuring spoons and measuring cups for a minute. Baking calls for precise measurements so you need both of these!
Stainless steel is the only way to go here, girl. They will last you a lifetime.
6. Rolling Pin
For my rolling pin, I have the classic wooden one.
For some reason, this is one of the things my kids fight over even though they all get a turn.
7. Cookie Cutters
If you plan to make my Christmas Cut Out Cookies, you can find the recipe below and I highly recommend, then you need Christmas cookie cutters.
These are cheap, easy to wash up, and last!
You also need a set of heart cookie cutters. I know what you are thinking – hearts, but this isn’t Valentine’s Day. You’re right, it isn’t.
But my aunt says you should always add some heart-shaped cookies when you make cut-out cookies so everyone knows the cookies were made with love. And I love that so much that I do it now too😊.
8. Wax Paper
Wax paper is going to be your best friend when it comes to making Christmas treats.
You will use it to cool some of the treats below on and for stacking them in storage containers so the treats don’t stick to one another.
I like to pick up Wax paper at Walmart.
9. Storage Containers
When all of your Christmas goodies are cool, you will want to store them in air-tight containers to make them last.
The best place to buy these is Walmart. I have multiple of the 14 cup container, the 1.5 gallon container, and the 2.5 gallon container.
We use all these so much throughout the year too.
Best Christmas Treats To Make
My elderly neighbor gifted us a container of these Angel cookies and they were gone in a hot minute. We just had to get the recipe from her.
As it turns out, the recipe was handed down to her from her mother-in-law. Some of those traditional recipes are hard to beat!
This Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Ball recipe was given to me by my grandmother and I love them.
I have seen so many Christmas treat recipes online but I have yet to come across something exactly like these.
3. Nut Goodies
One of my all-time, lifelong favorites - Nut Goodies!
I hope you have a friend or 2 that you can share these with because this recipe makes a bunch! They freeze amazingly well if you don’t.
If you want to half it, go ahead but I feel it isn't worth it to have extra ingredients lying around.
My husband is super picky when it comes to Christmas Cut Out Cookies and every recipe I tried was “close but just not it” until I tried this recipe.
Since then, I have handed it out so many times that I have lost count.
Here is the easiest truffle recipe that is also so delicious!
I love using dark chocolate but you could try it with whichever kind is your favorite.
6. Swedish Coconut Cookies
Talk about a heavenly cookie.
These babies melt in your mouth and my mom always makes multiple batches of them since they are a favorite among everyone in my family.
Who can resist a yummy peanut butter blossom cookie? I always top these with a Brach’s chocolate star. It just isn’t Christmas without these!
8. Spritz Cookies
My kids go nuts when it comes time to make Spritz cookies. They all want a turn using the cookie press.
We add sprinkles right into the cookie dough to add a little something extra. I have to make a separate batch just for my brother because he loves these so much!
9. Chocolate Snowflake Cookies
Calling all chocolate cookie lovers!
You won’t be able to resist these Chocolate Snowflake Cookies. These are fun for kids to help make and even more fun to see them come out of the oven.
10. Polar Express Hot Chocolate
Have you seen The Polar Express movie? The hot chocolate the kids drink is supposed to be “as thick and rich as melted chocolate bars" and girl it is so irresistible.
This recipe makes quite the batch so you can store it in your fridge for a few days.
My kids tell me this hot chocolate is a must every Christmas, no matter what!
11. Grasshopper Pie
This is a Christmas staple in my extended family even before I was born.
Every Christmas, everyone cheered when it was time for Grasshopper Pie.
I didn’t find out until about a year ago that there is a small amount of alcohol in it😊. I felt like such a rebel.
12. Dipped Ritz
Even though these babies take some time, they are so worth it.
I use premade Ritz peanut butter sandwich crackers to save some time. My kids love using sprinkles to decorate the tops.
If you decide these are the Christmas treats to make, let me know in the comments below how it turned out. I love hearing how recipes can be tweaked to other people’s liking.
