Best Gifts for 3rd Grade Boy
MORE FOR YOU TO ENJOY
1. Snacks
The first gift idea that we have to talk about is snacks. Snacks, snacks, and more snacks. 3rd grade boys are hungry all the time so snacks are essential.
2. Books
If you think books are a boring gift, you are giving the wrong ones! There are so many great books that 3rd grade boys love.
I Survived Series (either in chapter or graphic novel form)
3. Pokémon
Have you figured out how Pokémon works yet because I sure have not. But that does not stop boys from being so engaged with the Pokémon cards, Pokémon books, and Pokémon games.
I do have to say, I love going through this book with my son. It is so clever and he loves to help me learn about all the characters.
If you are going to get him Pokémon cards then get him a binder also. It helps to keep them contained and in awesome condition instead of lying all over your house.
4. Sports Cards
If your 3rd grader is anything like mine (and his buddies) he is into pro sports of some kind. Get him sports cards.
The fan favorite around here is the NFL and all 3 of my boys spend hours going over them.
Once again, get him that binder. It is so worth it.
5. Sports Equipment
Even if he does not want to play competitive sports, get him sports balls to play with at home.
We have 3 of these Nerf footballs, because you know grandma thought each of my boys needed their own, and they are played with all the time. They are easy to throw and easy to catch, and you never have to pump them up.
Or you could get him a soccer ball and a soccer net.
None of my kids play basketball on a team but that does not stop them from getting out on our driveway to shoot some hoops.
If baseball is more his speed, there are so many great pieces of equipment to choose from – gloves, baseball bat, baseballs, adjustable batting tee, hitting net, and more.
6. Board Games
Does he like playing board games? Get him a new one to add to his collection.
A few great ones for 8 and 9-year-old boys include Sorry and Trivial Pursuit – Family Edition.
However, my oldest son just got Chinese Checkers and my 3rd grader is obsessed. I am so surprised!
7. Military Toys and More
Oh man, if your son has any interest in military toys, I have gift ideas for you because my son is so obsessed.
Historic Battles From World War II for Kids Book
Aviator Sunglasses (which my son calls his “Mavs”)
8. Spy Kit
3rd grade boys love being sneaky and figuring stuff out. What better way to help with that than a Spy Science Kit?
You can also get him a Spy Gear Set and Night Vision Goggles so he can dress the part. Disclaimer – the night vision goggles are just a toy!
There is also a fantastic book that he will enjoy - Spies, Code Breakers, and Secret Agents.
9. Legos
Legos are great for so many things – using your imagination, problem-solving, sometimes following directions, and more. And there are kits for all interests.
My boys love the Star Wars Legos and Super Mario Legos but the ones that get played with the most are the classic bricks.
10. Nerf Guns
Ah, Nerf Guns. Do you love them or hate them? I have mixed feelings about them.
Sometimes my boys invite me to play and I love it but dang those Nerf darts. They get everywhere!
Regardless of how we feel about them, boys love them and can never have too many.
11. Laser Tag
Your 3rd grader will go nuts over laser tag. This set is so amazing. It comes with laser tag guns and vests but there are sensors in both.
And Mama, let him go out and play with them in the dark. It is so much fun.
12. Walkie Talkies
Get your guy a set of good walkie-talkies – Man Walkie Talkies! Do not waste your money on kid ones, you will be disappointed.
He will be able to use these for the rest of his life if he takes care of them.
13. Science Experiment Kit
Kids are curious. A science experiment is such a fun gift for 3rd grade boys since they are old enough to do most of the experiments on their own.
I wouldn’t wander too far away though, just in case he needs help.
14. Bicycle
If your 3rd grader is anything like mine, he grew again and is too big for his bike.
Now, friend, since he will continue to grow try to find a used bike for him. But if there isn’t one around, then obviously go for a brand new one.
15. Rubik's Cube
Keep his mind active by trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube.
My oldest son has the Rubik’s Pyramid and all of my boys play it constantly.
16. Water Bottle
If your 3rd grader has a character water bottle, it may be time for him to graduate to a solid-colored water bottle.
17. Clothes
Boys can get completely jazzed over the right clothes. I am talking about character t-shirts and favorite sports team hats.
And if it is his favorite, he is going to wear it. The most useful gift on this list!
Target has a pretty decent selection to choose from, along with Kohls. Watch for the sales!
Oh, and don't forget about Crocs. He will wear them everywhere you let him!
18. Watch
He can keep track of the time and how many steps he takes with this watch.
My 2 oldest kids have it and they wear it every day. The best part is it is cheap so if they don’t want to wear it anymore you aren’t out a bunch of money.
19. Video Games
Boys love video games and they will play as long as you let them. What system do you have? We have the original Wii and can still find games for it at gaming stores.
However, my nephew has the Nintendo Switch and my boys are begging for it.
20. Knee Hockey
If your son likes hockey at all then this knee hockey set is a must. He can work up a good sweat playing it too. I have seen that happen plenty of times.
Thankfully it comes with a foam ball😊.
21. Ping Pong
Check out this unique gift idea – a portable ping pong set that you can set up on your table.
The net retracts so storing it takes up hardly any room at all.
22. Paper Airplanes
Here is something fun for him to do if he is stuck inside – paper airplanes. This book is so great.
The paper is thicker and has easy-to-follow directions for folding. And to top it off, the designs on the planes are amazing.
There will be paper airplane throwing contests in your house in no time at all.
23. Remote Control Cars
Remote control vehicles are a blast to drive around.
My son has this car and it is so durable. It is also made for indoor/outdoor use. These never get old.
24. Flashlight
A headlamp or flashlight makes the perfect Christmas stocking stuffer or Easter basket filler.
You will be amazed how much your 3rd grader will use this!
25. Fishing Gear
If your 3rd grader likes to fish at all, hook him up with the right gear. You can never have too much fishing gear.
Here are a few that he will love.
(Both of these are at our house. All my kids have their own.)
26. Experiences
Take your 3rd grader on a grand adventure. It will be something that he will remember forever.
Here are some fun examples.
A Movie
Go Cart Racing
Trampoline Park
Swimming
Theme Park
Museum of something he is interested in.
The Zoo
Sports Game
