Best Halloween Activities at Home
MORE FOR YOU TO ENJOY
1. Halloween Decorations
First things first, decorate your house! It is the best way to be in the Halloween spirit instantly.
Let your kids help you! They will have a ton of fun with it. The older they get, the better they will get at decorating.
Here are a few of my favorite Halloween decorations. Of course, there are so many more to choose from.
And I must ask, are you a Happy Halloween kind of person or do you go for the Spooky Halloween? Let me know in the comments below.
2. Decorate Pumpkins
Where do you like to get your pumpkins from? We love that there is a pumpkin trailer not far from our house every year.
Anyway, get decorating those pumpkins at home.
There are so many different ways you can decorate them – carve them, paint them, or even use pumpkin face stickers.
We have done all of these and they always turn out amazing!
Here are some of our favorite pumpkin decorating supplies.
3. Haunted House
I have to say that I have not created a haunted house for my kids because we are more into the Happy Halloween around here but I have been to my fair share when I was growing up and they were always a ton of fun.
Create your own haunted house and invite your family and friends over to go through it.
4. Halloween Books
Reading Halloween books is a fantastic festive activity to do at home with your kids. And we both know that they should be reading whenever they can.
Here are some of our favorite Halloween books that I know your kids will love too.
5. Halloween Scavenger Hunt
Set up a scavenger hunt around your house by trying to find Halloween items.
You can have everyone look inside and out if you want to make it more of a challenge.
This is one Halloween activity that my kids ask for year after year.
Check out this post for a complete list of Halloween Scavenger Hunt ideas.
6. Halloween Treats and Food
Holy moly, there are so many Halloween treats and food to try and you can find them all on Pinterest.
Let your kids help you make them all, especially the treats. They will have a blast with you.
If you are looking for the best Halloween Cutout Cookie Recipe then you have to check this one out!
I know, I KNOW, people always say this is the best but girl, THIS IS THE BEST! So many people have asked me for this recipe.
Don’t forget about the Halloween Cookie Cutters.
I use this recipe to make Christmas Cutout Cookies too and always make a double batch.
7. Halloween Costumes
Kids love playing dress up, especially those 8 and under.
We leave our costumes out all year long and my kids use them. I would rather have them wear the costumes out and get my money's worth.
What has been your favorite costume ever? Let me know in the comments below. Mine has to be Dottie Hinson the Rockford Peach from A League of Their Own.
However, my husband has gone as Bob Ross a few times because it was such a hit. My kids love to wear the wig when they are painting any time of the year.
8. Halloween Movie
Pick an October night to watch some festive Halloween movies.
You can’t go wrong with the classic It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.
Hocus Pocus is great as well if you are watching it with kids that are a bit older.
Make this night epic by having an outdoor movie experience, if the weather will let you.
9. Halloween Games
Try Halloween Bingo or Halloween Witch Hat Ring Toss if you are looking for a festive game or 2.
My kids always ask to play these over and over.
10. Halloween Activities
If you are looking for Halloween activities that you can do with your kids at home, try Halloween countdown chains made from construction paper (they are cheap decorations), Halloween Mad Libs to get your kids laughing, and Halloween magnets.
11. Face Paint
Have you ever been anywhere that does face painting? The line is always huge!
Kids love having their faces painted.
I have been using this face paint for so long with these paintbrushes.
It washes off with soap and water. Sometimes the red needs a little makeup remover. A baby wipe works too.
12. Halloween Science Experiments
We have not done Halloween science experiments yet but it is on our list to try this year.
Some dynamite ideas that I have found to try include Halloween Slime, Bubbling Witches Brew (similar to elephant toothpaste), and Spooky Expanding Ghost.
Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these.
13. Halloween Party
Host a Halloween party! Invite family, friends, and even your neighbors.
Oh girl, I can hear you now – this sounds like so much work and that is true but it will also be oh so much fun! Make those memories!
Of course, it has to be a costume party and you will be surprised how many people will dress up.
To help keep costs down for yourself, ask everyone to bring a dish to pass.
We started doing this for my side of the family and wow, it is such a hit. This year will be our 5th year.
14. Halloween Party Decorations
If you do decide to throw a Halloween party, check out these Halloween party decorations.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PHOTO BOOTH! It is the best way to take pictures of everyone in their costumes.
All you need for this is foil curtains (these work best indoors, just speaking from experience here), Halloween balloons, and Halloween themed lights.
Other decorations that will elevate your party without emptying your wallet include fake spiderwebs and Halloween colored streamers.
This post was all about the best Halloween activities at home.
What Halloween activities do you plan to try this year? We are planning to get a few new decorations and try out a few new Halloween recipes.
I look forward to hearing from you and thanks for stopping by.
