40th Birthday Party Decorations
To make your husband’s 40th birthday extra special, include party decorations. These are the must-have decorations that will take your celebration to the next level.
Photo Booth
If you want only to have one decoration for your hubby, make it a photo booth area.
It is a blast for everyone and is a great way to capture his birthday.
You can keep it pretty simple or go all out.
These are a few easy photo booth items that are also fairly cheap.
Birthday Pictures
Print pictures of your husband from as many previous birthdays as possible and hang them up everywhere.
They are not only fun for guests to check out but your husband will like seeing them as well.
Walking Decorations
This one will take a little bit of time but it is so worth it.
Grab some white t-shirts and iron on transfer paper. Pick out the best photos of your husband, even from when he was little, and print them on the iron on transfer paper.
Ask a few guests, or even your kids, to wear them on his birthday or at his birthday party.
Trust me, other people will want to copy this idea from you.

40th Birthday Party
Throw a 40th birthday party for your guy. It can be a surprise or he can be in on the fun.
Keep it so simple and have the theme be – 40th Birthday Party.
You can find so many decorations to jazz your party up. Here are a few to get you started.
Mexican Fiesta
Tacos, guacamole, and margaritas anyone. Um, yes, please!
Assemble the best taco bar of your life. I am talking about taco meat, lettuce, cheese, olives, tomatoes, corn, rice, beans, onions, sour cream, guacamole, taco sauce, salsa, chips, and taco shells.
Did I miss anything?
Oh yes, the drinks girl! Margaritas here we come. To make margaritas that are sure to wow, invest in the Margaritaville Margarita Machine. You will have people coming back for more when you make them this way.
Get him a full-sized sombrero, because why not?! These sombrero headbands are fun for everyone else to wear.
Do you plan on having kids at your party? If so, I highly recommend a pinata or 2.
Backyard BBQ
Keep your celebrating at home with a backyard BBQ.
Burgers, chicken, hotdogs, and brats – yum!
Ice Cream Social
If you are looking for a completely family friendly celebration, look no further than an ice cream social. The kids will go nuts over this!
Pick up this ice cream maker, it is so easy to use and makes ice cream in no time. You can even make it ahead of time. The best part is that it tastes so good!
Put together a toppings bar with all the sauces, candies, and nuts you can think of. Don’t forget the whipped cream.
Outdoor Movie
If the weather is nice, plan an outdoor movie.
This movie projector does the trick.
I love doing this during the summer with our neighbors. We set up a movie theater snack bar with all the salty and sweet treats.
Just don’t forget to spray your yard for bugs ahead of time or they will carry you right inside.
Casino Night
If your husband likes to play cards then you should have a casino night.
Murder Mystery Party
Have you ever had a murder mystery party? They are quite fun.
Everyone gets to play a part and they can even dress up for it.
There are a bunch of Murder Mystery Party packets to choose from here.
Color Themed Party
If he has a favorite color or 2, have a color party. Ask all your guests to dress in that color.
You can go out to eat and maybe hit up a bar or 2 after that.
Game Night
Keep it low key with a few of your closest friends and have a game night.
Make a variety of appetizers and grab some drinks.
Check out my recipe for Pickle Roll Up Dip.
Here are a few games that are great for a party.
80s Theme
Everyone loves a good 80s themed party. It is all about the neon colors, crazy makeup, and hair bands.
Pirates
Arr, Matey.
Don’t look at me like that, you heard me right – Pirates.
Some people love pirates, like the Pirates of the Caribbean kind, and you can get so creative with it.
You can find pirate yard blow-ups, wear costumes, and of course, put up lots of decorations. Have your drink coolers be treasure chests.
Roaring 20s Party
Turn your house into a Speakeasy. You can use cardboard boxes as liquor boxes, put up signs with sayings of the time, and have a code word to get in.
Here are some decorations to help you out.
We did a roaring 20s party for my sister's bachelorette party. Everyone loved it so much we did it again for my brother-in-law's 30s birthday party.
Disco Party
Leisure suits, afro hair, and that disco ball!
African Safari
I know you are asking, an African Safari theme? Hear me out.
This is the party I put together for my husband because a real-life African Safari is on his bucket list.
The inside of our house looked like a jungle with streamers, balloons, and huge fake leaves.
These animal masks were fun for all the kids to wear.
There were Nerf Guns galore to go “hunting”. These are some dynamite ones.
Scavenger Hunt
Divide all of your guests into teams and have a scavenger hunt. You can keep this at your house or have them go around town (which I highly recommend).
Have rules like photo proof of the item with a team member and a time limit.
You can have the teams look for a list of items or give them riddles to solve.
Everyone will have fun with this one.
Bucket List
Get something crossed off his bucket list.
Maybe it is something crazy (crazy to me) like skydiving, taking a trip somewhere, or eating food that he has always wanted to try.
Go Out to Eat
This is a birthday classic and it is hard to beat. Since he is turning 40, maybe a fancy pants place is up.
Golfing
Guys always seem to have fun golfing. Send him out with his buddies and pick them up when they are done.
Party Bus
Book a party bus so everyone can join in on the fun and visit a winery or brewery or a few bars.
Concert
Has he been talking about seeing his favorite band in concert? Book it, girl.
Destination Travel
Take a little trip somewhere, or a big one – you choose. Where has he always talked about going or does he have a favorite place?
Sporting Event
Does he have a favorite sport and team? Get him tickets to a game. You can stay at a hotel for the whole weekend to extend the fun.
Camping
He will be able to get away from it all on a camping trip. Talk about a relaxing way to spend your birthday.
