Hey girl, I am so glad you stopped by so I could share this old-fashioned ginger cookies recipe with you.

This last Christmas, my daughter and I decided to try a bunch of our traditional family Christmas treats recipes and this old fashioned ginger cookies recipe made the list.
And when I say old fashioned, I mean Old Fashioned. My great grandmother made these ginger cookies in a wood heated fire oven. Can you even imagine?
Anyway, we ended up trying 10 different recipes (thanks to my aunt for the marathon baking day) and these old fashioned ginger cookies were the first treat to be completely devoured by my kids.
They even beat out their favorite Christmas Cut Out cookies, which have been the fan favorite for about 6 years.
I know these ginger cookies scream Christmas (they are a fantastic addition to any Christmas goodies platter), but you will enjoy making and having them year round.
So, without further ado, let’s get in the kitchen and whip up a batch of these old fashioned ginger cookies.

Kitchen Supplies
There are a few kitchen items that will help you make these ginger cookies. Let me know in the comments if you make these.
Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer (a hand mixer and a good mixing bowl will also work)
Ingredients
- ¾ Cup Butter – Room Temperature
- 1 Cup White Sugar, plus a little extra – about ¼ cup
- 2 Eggs
- 4 TBLS Molasses
- 2 Cups Flour
- 2 tsp Baking Soda
- ½ tsp Cloves
- 1 tsp Ginger
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- Pinch of Salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- In your mixer, cream butter and 1 cup of white sugar together.
- Add eggs and mix again.
- Next, add in the rest of the ingredients and mix – molasses, flour, baking soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and that pinch of salt.
- Using the cookie scoop, scoop out the dough and drop it into the extra sugar. Roll until completely covered then place on the cookie pan.
- Bake for about 10 minutes.
Helpful Tips
- If you don’t have a cookie scoop, you can form about 1 inch cookie dough balls in your hand, but be advised – this cookie dough is sticky!
- I like using parchment paper on my cookie sheets, and these ginger cookies come off easily from it.
- Leave a little space between the cookies as they will flatten out while in the oven. 3 x 3 or 3 x 4 works well, depending on the size of your cookie pan.
- To make them look extra festive for Christmas, dip them in melted white chocolate or almond bark and then add sprinkles before it cools. I like to dip only half the cookie. They are so pretty this way but not necessary if you are short on time.
