Hey girl, today let’s chat about how you can make the most delicious Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Balls.
Are you on the hunt to make a different kind of Christmas treat this year? No worries, girl, I have you covered.
My mom made these Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Balls every Christmas as I was growing up and she got the recipe from my grandma. Sometimes those old recipes are just the best.
For whatever reason, my grandma calls these little babies Sputniks and I have no idea why!
When I started having kids, I knew that I wanted to make Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Balls for them at Christmas time.
Girl, these treats are going to look so great on your Christmas platter. But why save them just for Christmas? You can make them for birthday parties, cookouts, graduations, baby showers, and so much more.

Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Ball Recipe
Ingredients
- ½ Cup Creamy Peanut Butter
- ¼ Unsalted Butter, softened
- 2 Cups Powdered Sugar, divided
- 1 ½ Cup Rice Krispies Cereal
- ½ Cup Chopped Walnuts
- 5 TBLS Milk
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- Shredded Coconut
Instructions
- Place a piece of wax paper on your cookie sheet.
- Cream together peanut butter, butter, and 1 cup of powdered sugar until smooth. Use the adjustable measuring cup for the peanut butter.
- Next, add Rice Krispies and the chopped walnuts and mix.
- Using the small cookie scoop, place a scoop of dough in your hands and roll it into a ball. The cookie scoop is to get the balls all about the same size. Then place the ball on the wax paper.
- Continue this step until you have all the dough in a ball form.
Frosting Instructions
- Combine 1 cup of powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a shallow bowl.
- Put about ½ cup of shredded coconut in another shallow bowl. You may have to add more later.
- Roll 1 Peanut Butter Ball at a time in the powdered sugar bowl and coat the whole ball. Next, immediately roll the ball in the coconut and coat the whole ball.
- Place the Peanut Butter Ball back on the wax paper to dry.
- When all the Peanut Butter Balls are dry, store them in an airtight container.
Helpful Tips
- You can toast the coconut in the oven until golden brown for a different look and stronger coconut taste.
- If you don’t care for coconut, try rolling these balls in festive Christmas sprinkles.
- Do you love chocolate as much as I do? Then you have to try omitting the frosting part of this recipe and dip these balls in melted chocolate. I prefer dark chocolate.
- Instead of adding chopped walnuts, you can use any chopped nuts or leave them out altogether. I like using chopped pecans when I go for dipping the balls in dark chocolate.
