More For You to Love
(The perfect snack for new moms)
1. Perineal Squeeze Bottle
Your hospital will supply you with one of these and it is yours to keep. Make sure you take it home with you.
But if you feel the need to have another one on hand, this Peri Bottle will do the trick for you.
2. Comfy Underwear
Girl, I hate to break it to you but your bottom will be sore as well as your lower abdomen. This is where comfy underwear is the best option.
The best kind is maternity underwear – you know the kind that sits just under your bump.
No joke, these are the best.
3. Feminine Pads
In case you don’t know, after you have your baby, you will have a postpartum period of about 4 to 6 weeks and you can’t use tampons.
Girl, you don’t even want to use tampons and yes, I was shocked to find out all this information!
It is heavy at first and then gradually becomes less and less until it stops.
Your hospital will give you some mesh underwear. Take home the fresh ones that are in your hospital room. Otherwise, you will get charged for them and they will just throw them away.
Get a variety of absorbency levels of feminine pads with wings. The wings are vital!
4. Nursing Pads
Even if you plan not to nurse, your milk will still come in. Have nursing pads on hand.
These are the most comfortable ones to wear. They are also absorbent, stay in place, and soft.
5. Comfy Bras
Girl, your boobs will be sore when your milk comes in. You can make them as comfortable as possible with these sleeping bras.
Now, even though they are sleeping bras you go right ahead and wear them around the clock for the first 2 weeks after you have your baby.
Let’s get personal for a minute.
Here is the real deal about when your milk comes in. It is not the same for every pregnancy!
Your boobs can feel anywhere from just full and slightly uncomfortable to so swollen and hard as rocks.
I experienced all of this and when they were so swollen it was kind of painful. Taking a warm shower and trying to express enough milk just didn’t work. Thankfully, I had a breast pump that could help.
6. Nipple Cream
Are you planning to breastfeed? If so, you need Lanolin Nipple Cream, and girl, a little goes a long way.
It helps to prevent your nipples from becoming cracked and it is completely safe for your baby.
7. Breast Pump
Also, if you plan to nurse, look at getting a breast pump. This is especially helpful if you plan to go back to work and nurse.
This is a newer version of the one that I used and loved.
8. Vitamins
Even though your pregnancy will be over, you should still take vitamins. Please talk with your doctor about which ones are right for you.
Since I was breastfeeding, my doctor advised me to continue with the prenatal vitamins I was taking.
9. Heating Pad and Ice Packs
Girl, you will be sore in places like your bottom, breasts, abdomen, and more. Get a dynamite heating pad and flexible ice packs. They help so much!
10. Pain Medication
If your doctor recommends some over-the-counter medicine like Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or something like it, have some on hand.
11. Coffee
Shout it out – YOU CAN HAVE COFFEE AGAIN!
And girl, you are going to need it. Those tired moments can blindside you and drop you.
12. Yeti Tumbler
It will help keep your coffee hot until the very last drop.
13. Water Bottle
Yes, your hospital will give you a water cup but it isn’t something that you will want to carry with you outside your house.
Staying extra hydrated is huge as you recover, especially if you are breastfeeding. It is also a great mood lifter.
14. Grace
One of the most important things for your postpartum experience is to give yourself grace.
This is a brand new chapter for you and your baby and you are learning about each other together.
Give yourself grace because everything isn’t going to go exactly as you plan and that is just fine. Roll with it, Mama!
15. Support
Having a baby is HARD!
Surround yourself with people you can trust to ask questions and help you. I am here if you need me!
Call those hospital numbers, they gave you them for a reason.
It is okay to let family and friends help you, even when you are so used to doing everything for yourself (yep, that’s me).
16. Take a Walk
Get up and get moving, unless your doctor says otherwise.
Start slow and small and gain more every day, outside if you can. It brightens your day and gets you exercise.
17. Shower Steamers
These shower steamers will help you relax with a little me time at home. They smell wonderful.
18. Lotion
Get lotion you can trust to hydrate your skin. Your body is going through lots of hormone changes after you deliver and your skin can become extra dry because of it.
Aveeno lotion is great if you are on a budget.
Youth to the People is like Wowza hydrating if you can spend a little bit more.
19. Hair Accessories
For a little while, say bye-bye to showering as often as you like.
Bring on the helpful hair accessories.
20. Cozy Socks
They are so soft and have no-slip grippers on them.
21. Soft Blanket
You will love snuggling with your baby under this Sherpa Fleece blanket. The best part – it is machine washable.
Skip the small size and go for the Twin or even the Queen. You won’t regret it one bit.
22. Bathrobe
If you do not have a bathrobe, this is the one to get.
Not only is it great when you just get out of the shower but will keep you warm when you get up in the night to help your baby.
23. Lip Balm
Laneige has a lip sleeping mask that is so great.
And even though it says sleeping, you can use it all day as lip balm and it will stay on while you drink water.
24. Chocolates
Let me shoot you straight, going through labor is like going through a marathon that you did NOT train for.
Get yourself some chocolates as a reward.
25. Kindle
Trust me, you will eventually get bored of your phone and television. Hard to believe, right?
If you don’t have one already, get a Kindle.
It is amazing since you can use it with one hand (that is what you have to work with now) and any time of the day or night.
The best part is that you can check out eBooks from your public library. I just trying to save you some money.
Oh yeah, don’t forget the cover. No matter how careful you are, it will get dropped at some point.
26. Nail Polish
Nail polish is a fantastic mood lifter! With all the changes that will happen to the rest of your body, you can bet that your nails will stay the same. So, spice them up.
Essie nail polish is so great.
Congratulations on this new journey of motherhood. Even though it may be stressful at times, remember the good lord won't give you anything you can't handle.
