Best Pregnancy Essentials
Congratulations on your pregnancy. This is such an exciting time for you.
Even if you are battling morning sickness or any other unpleasant thing that may happen due to pregnancy, remember this to shall pass.
Try to take in the whole experience and go on as many dates and adventures as you can with your husband. You won’t regret it.
I am so proud of you mama!
If you have any questions or need a friend, drop a comment below. I am here for you.
1. Pregnancy Book
A pregnancy book is one of the first things you should consider purchasing. They are a wealth of knowledge!
The day I found out I was pregnant I went out and picked up the book What to Expecting When You Are Expecting. I read it cover to cover with all 4 of my pregnancies.
It answered so many questions so I didn’t have to constantly be running to my OB for answers.
It also has a great section for Dads and postpartum.
This app, Pregnancy App & Baby Tracker, was also useful for me to help keep track of where I was at in my pregnancy.
2. Lotion
Your body will be constantly growing and stretching over your pregnancy. To help with your skin’s elasticity, dryness, and to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, you need to apply lotion.
There are so many great options out there but I used Aveeno Fragrance-Free, and I still use it. The fragrance-free part is huge!
Most pregnant women have a nose like a bloodhound and many fragrances can make you feel sick.
You can try as hard as you like and no matter what any lotion says, you are going to get some stretch marks of some kind somewhere on your body.
Mine ended up on the sides of my hips. Thankfully by being religious about using lotion, they are small and light.
3. Water Bottle
Water, water, and more water! You need to be drinking a ton of water throughout your pregnancy.
Water is important for everyone but especially when you are expecting. It is so good for your body and your baby.
It will help keep you healthier, avoid headaches, help with skin elasticity, and so much more.
To help make sure you are getting enough water, get yourself a great water bottle.
I had this water bottle, 2 of them actually, and carried them everywhere. They kept my water cold and were easy to clean.
4. Prenatal Vitamins
Prenatal vitamins have nutrients for you and your baby's development. So important!
You will want to talk to your doctor for the best prenatal vitamin recommendations.
With my first pregnancy, I didn't know any better and my doctor prescribed my prenatal vitamins. So naturally, I thought these are the only ones out there. Not true. And um, hello – those cost way more.
There are plenty of over-the-counter options you can choose from. Just make sure the one you choose has a high folic acid content which is best for your baby’s brain development.
All prenatal vitamins can make your stomach upset. To help minimize this, consider taking it at night as you get ready for bed.
5. Body Pillow
As your body changes and your stomach grows, sleeping may become uncomfortable. You may be able to get by with a regular extra pillow and that would be great.
But if you want the best pregnancy sleep possible, look at getting this pregnancy body pillow. It will allow you to get into more comfortable positions while you sleep.
I didn’t get it with my first pregnancy but did with my 2nd. And then I was like, how did I sleep without this while pregnant?
Can’t say enough good things about having this pillow.
6. Belly Band
As your belly grows, it will put a strain on your back, legs, round ligaments, and more. You can help reduce some of this strain, aches, and pains by using a belly band.
I found this with my 2nd pregnancy when I was getting sciatic pain in my back and down my leg. Then it proved helpful when I started having round ligament pain.
It takes a little bit to get used to wearing it but it was so worth it.
I didn’t have to wear the belly band every day but, on the days, when I needed it I was sure glad to have it.
It got a workout with my 3rd and 4th pregnancies too.
7. Makeup
Sorry to break it to you, but you will be tired a lot! Growing a baby is hard work. And that may show under your eyes.
So, bust out your favorite concealer to help you look extra fresh. And maybe some setting powder. Even though you might not be fully awake, at least you will look fully awake.
I do not wear much makeup daily and I don't have the worst under-eye darkening but I always wear concealer. For reference, I have sensitive, dry under eyes.
My favorite concealer is Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. My favorite setting powder is Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder.
I tried to get by using drugstore products but with my sensitive skin, it just didn’t work out for me.
8. Sucking Candy
If you are battling morning sickness, or all-day-everyday sickness like I did, sucking candy can help.
For me, the only thing that would help nausea settle was eating. After gaining more than I wanted to, it dawned on me to try sucking candy.
Just having something in my mouth did the trick to settle my stomach without gaining more than I should.
Pick up a few of your favorite kinds. I love butterscotch and life savers.
Gum works also, but I am just not a gum chewer.
9. Antacids
That little growing bambino of yours is scrunching your stomach, which may cause you heartburn.
I was never one for heartburn before my pregnancies, but I sure did learn quickly about it while I was pregnant.
Keep your favorite antacids on hand and in many places.
I kept them at home, in my purse, in my lunch cooler, and my car.
These antacids worked the best for me. I tried a bunch of different kinds and most of them made me want to throw up.
10. Bra Extenders
Throughout your pregnancy, your boobs are going to grow and grow some more. To help stay in your regular bra longer, use these bra extenders.
These little babies are the cat’s meow. And they are cheap.
They helped me stay in my regular bra until it seemed the cups were going to run over.
11. Supportive Bra
Like I just told you, your boobs are going to get bigger. You are going to want to support them the best you can with a decent maternity bra.
Normally I have a smaller chest – 34B – but my chest got enormous! Like to the point that I wasn’t sure how to handle my new plentiful bosom.
These maternity bras helped to keep me supported.
12. Nipple Covers
Everything grows while you are pregnant and your nipples will too. I am not sure if this happens with every prego but it sure did to me.
About halfway into all of my pregnancies, any time I was changing it always looked like I was nipping out.
These disposable nipple covers, along with my supportive bra, helped conceal the fact that my nipples couldn’t get themselves under control.
They were pretty comfortable to wear.
13. Stretchy Pants
Your belly, butt, and legs are going to grow and grow – even if you are great about exercising. I gained 30 to 40 pounds with each of my pregnancies.
Thank gosh there are so many kinds of stretchy pants to choose from these days.
These are my favorite stretchy leggings. They were great to wear after my babies came too.
14. Underwear
Your regular underwear will work for a while but not for your whole pregnancy.
This underwear is so comfortable and they have enough stretch to make it through until you fit back in your normal unders post-baby.
Get your normal size. If you normally wear a medium, get the medium. I thought maybe I needed to size up but they were huge and I had to return them.
This post was all about the best pregnancy essentials for you.
